  8. "Brainwash Quotes" is an extension for BBEdit. It reverses the effect of the "Educate Quotes" extension, i.e., it converts smart quotes (“”‘’) to stupid quotes (""'').

  11. Installation

  14. To install the extension, drop it into your BBEdit Extensions folder, and quit BBEdit if it's running. The extension will be active next time you run BBEdit.

  17. Using the extension

  20. When the extension is selected from the Extensions menu in BBEdit, it will convert all smart quotes in the active window to dull quotes. It is not undoable.

  23. Why this exists
  24. ---------------

  26. The main reason why I did this was to start hacking with BBEdit. The second reason is to help me with HTML publishing -- smart quotes are usually mapped into obscene accented characters by web browsers. That can make an HTML document really annoyingly scrambled...
